Tuakau College provides students with a broad-based, high quality education based on the essential learning areas (see link below). Students, regardless of their abilities, are expected to achieve to their potential and are encouraged to
work hard in well-disciplined and stimulating classroom environments.

Years 7 and 8 have compulsory subjects and set subject rotations.
Years 9 and 10 students select optional subjects.
NCEA Levels 1, 2, and 3 are offered in Years 11, 12 and 13.
The Minister of Education has announced a proposal to replace NCEA with a new senior secondary qualification pathway. This marks the beginning of a national consultation, inviting feedback from schools, families, and the wider community. While there are no immediate changes, the proposal will see a shift in how qualifications are structured and delivered in the years ahead.
To help you understand what is being proposed and why, we have attached the Ministry of Education’s Summary for Parents for your review (see link below)
What does this mean for your child?
· There will be no changes for students currently in Year 9 and above.
· Students currently in Year 8 would be the first group to experience the new qualifications from 2028 onward.
We would like to assure you that while changes are being considered for the future, NCEA remains a recognised national qualification. We will continue to support our current students through NCEA , ensuring every learner
is well prepared for their next steps.
Ministry of Education Consultation – CALL FOR FEEDBACK
The Ministry has asked schools to engage families in the consultation process. While the proposed changes will not affect current NCEA students, your feedback as parents remains important.
Consultation is now open and will run until 15 September 2025. Find out more on this link: https://www.education.govt.nz/have-your-say/consultation-proposal-replace-ncea/details
